Wolverhampton Wanderers could be ready to kick-start their summer spending with a big money move for Ryan Bertrand, according to The Express.

Wolves are vying for Bertrand's signature alongside Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

The 28-year-old is at the centre of a four-way transfer tussle as newly-promoted Wolves look to snap up the highly-rated defender to bolster their squad ahead of the Premier League campaign.

And if Southampton lose to Swansea City tonight, they are favourites amongst bookmakers for the drop (click here to visit Bet and Skill to see the odds) going into the final game of the season.

Bertrand will look to leave St Mary's if his side go down with Gareth Southgate keen for all of his England players to be competing in the Premier League.

Southampton will hold out for £25m if Bertrand does look to leave this summer as he put pen-to-paper on an £80k per week contract which runs until summer 2021.

Newcastle are looking for a new left-back to compete with Paul Dummett while Tottenham are hoping to sign Bertrand to compete with Ben Davies if Danny Rose completes his switch to Manchester United.

And if the Red Devils do not sign Rose, they could enter the race for Bertrand too.

Wolves - who currently have Barry Douglas at left-wing-back - are also considering a move for the England international.

The Verdict

Bertrand is an accomplished defender at Premier League level and his attacking qualities make him the complete modern day wing-back.

It would be harsh to drop Douglas after the season he has had but perhaps a bit of strength in depth would do Nuno Espirito Santo's squad some good going into the Premier League campaign.

In Douglas and Bertrand, they would arguably have one of the best left flanks in the top flight.
