Wolverhampton Wanderers have joined the race for Aleksandar Mitrovic, according to the print edition of last weekend's Sunday People via The Chronicle.

Mitrovic has been in red hot form for Fulham this season after joining them on loan from Newcastle United in the January transfer window and he could be available this summer.

Newcastle are ready to sell Mitrovic as manager Rafa Benitez eyes reinforcements up front this summer.

In order to generate funds for a new striker, Benitez will let Mitrovic go and they have slapped a £20m price tag on the physical centre forward.

The Serbia international has scored 11 goals in 13 starts for Fulham since joining in January - a remarkable tally which has helped his side rise to third in the league table as they continue to pursue Cardiff City in the race for automatic promotion.

His time at Newcastle has been up and down with the occasional top class displays but also with hot-headed moments.

The 23-year-old has been given a starring role under Slavisa Jokanovic at Craven Cottage, though, and Fulham are desperate to sign him permanently.

The Cottagers will need to go up to realistically afford him so Wolves are ready to poach Mitrovic, with Leo Bonatini and Benik Afobe's loan deals coming to an end.

The Verdict

If Bonatini and Afobe do not sign permanent deals at Molineux, then Wolves will be missing a central figure up top. young Rafa Mir, who is not quite ready for first team football just yet, would be their only option. They have to sign a striker from somewhere but they might hope to get someone with a better track record at Premier League level for the money being quoted.
