Wolves in the EFL: Remember Roger Johnson? Here’s what he’s up to nowadays

After suffering relegation to the Championship in 2012, Wolverhampton Wanderers would have been hoping to secure an immediate return to the Premier League.

However, the following season turned out to be a disaster for the club as they failed to deliver the goods in the second-tier.

One of the individuals who struggled to live up to expectations during this particular campaign was Roger Johnson.

The defender made 42 appearances for the club in the Championship as Wolves were relegated to the third-tier.

Although the Wanderers managed to respond to this setback by winning the League One title in 2014, Johnson fell out of favour with manager Kenny Jackett and was loaned out on two separate occasions by the club.

Following his temporary stints with Sheffield Wednesday and West Ham United, Johnson sealed a permanent switch to Charlton Athletic in 2015.

Having made 14 league appearances for the Addicks during the second-half of the 2014/15 campaign, the former Birmingham City man decided to join Indian side Pune City.

Charlton opted to re-sign Johnson in 2016 and the defender went on to feature on 12 occasions for the club in all competitions before moving to Bromley.

During his time with Bromley, Johnson featured regularly for the side in the National League as he helped them retain their status in this particular division.

Since retiring from professional football in 2019, the 38-year-old has decided to embark on a career in coaching.

Appointed as Bromley’s First Team Coach earlier this year, Johnson has helped the club make a positive start to the 2021/22 campaign.

Currently fourth in the National League, the Ravens will be looking to get back to winning ways this weekend following their recent draw with Stockport County when they host King’s Lynn Town at Hayes Lane.

If Bromley are able to seal victory in this particular showdown, they could potentially move to within one point of league leaders Chesterfield.
