Wolves are looking to tie down U17 World Cup winner Morgan Gibbs-White to an extended contract after reports suggested that Liverpool were eyeing a move for the midfielder.

The local lad made his debut in the club's fantastic FA Cup win at Stoke last season as a 16-year old and featured regularly in the match day squads until injury hit.

However, he was back fit for the U17 World Cup and played a significant part as England lifted the trophy, scoring a goal in the final. That has prompted interest from several elite Premier League sides, with Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham credited with an interest.

Therefore, Wolves are desperate to get Gibbs-White to agree a new deal at Molineux and are working on sorting that according to the Express & Star.

His current contract expires in 2019 and Wolves will be looking to secure him on a much longer deal should he choose to stay in the Black Country.

The youngster has already spoken of his ambition to break into the first team under the new manager Nuno Espirito Santo, who has spoken highly of Gibbs-White in the past.

The Verdict

Gibbs-White is one of the most talented players Wolves have produced in years and that was proven by the contributions he made for England.

That World Cup win will have raised the profile of all the England U17 squad, so speculation and links with other club's seemed inevitable, especially as Wolves are in the championship.

However, they will hope he can see the pathway to the first team at Molineux and will choose to extend his stay with the club for the foreseeable future.
