Wolverhampton Wanderers have passed up the opportunity to sign Benik Afobe on a permanent deal this summer, according to the print edition of The Mirror via HITC Sport.

Afobe re-joined Wolves on loan in January and is keen on making his move to Molineux permanent but Wolves manager has his doubts over whether he can hack it at Premier League level.

The Bournemouth striker has only scored 10 goals in 63 games for the Cherries since his big money move from Wolves.

But he has been better at Championship level, scoring six times since his return to the West Midlands on loan.

Wolves were reportedly keen on signing him permanently but now The Mirror believe they will not be following up their interest in him.

The 25-year-old now faces an uncertain future with Bournemouth willing to sell him but Wolves not prepared to take a risk on the former Arsenal academy product, who has failed to live up to expectations in the Premier League thus far in his career.

Afobe's previous spell at Wolves yielded the most prolific stats of his career.

The DR Congo international bagged 23 goals in 48 games for Wolves at Championship level, earning him his move to Bournemouth, but now he might not be returning to Wolves.

The Verdict

Most Wolves fans just assumed that Afobe would be returning to Molineux permanently, even if he is only kept as a back-up option.

I think that Afobe - a homegrown player - at £8m is a snip in today's market.

With Afobe and Bonatini not signing permanent deals by the looks of things, Wolves need to snap up at least two new strikers this summer.
