Wolverhampton Wanderers are battling with some of English football’s elite clubs in the race to sign Jack Wilshere from Arsenal this summer.

According to the Mirror, Wilshere is looking set to end his long association with Arsenal in the summer, having failed to agree fresh terms with the North London club.

Wilshere has been offered a £90k-a-week contract at the Emirates Stadium, but is looking set to leave Arsenal in the summer, with Wolves in the hunt to sign the England midfielder on a free ahead of their Premier League return.

Wolves face stiff competition to sign Wilshere, should he leave Arsenal, with Everton already making the 26-year-old a huge offer, whilst Liverpool and Manchester City are monitoring his situation at the Emirates.

The England central midfielder, who has made 35 appearances this season and put some of his injury woes behind him, could also be subject to interest from Italy, with Juventus and AC Milan also keen on a move.

The Mirror understand that Wilshere’s preference is to remain with Arsenal, although that is looking increasingly unlikely.

Wolves are planning for the Premier League, after their promotion back to the top-flight was confirmed last weekend. Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are looking to secure the Sky Bet Championship title on Saturday, knowing a single point will clinch the trophy.

The Verdict

From what we’ve seen from Wolves in the transfer market over the last 12 months, we know that they will want to make a big impact in the Premier League.

The links with Wilshere, and who Wolves are competing with, is further evidence of that.

The 26-year-old might prefer a move elsewhere this summer, but the fact that Wolves are interested, will seriously encourage their supporters.

It could be an exciting summer at Molineux.
