According to a transfer report from the Express and Star, Wolverhampton Wanderers are confident of recouping £1.5m from Ben Marshall’s departure this week, with the midfielder edging closer to the Molineux exit door.

Marshall has only been with Wolves for 12 months, after the club brought him to Molineux last January from Blackburn Rovers. However, the 26-year-old has suffered under Nuno Espirito Santo’s revolution, struggling to earn a regular opportunity in the club’s favoured 3-4-3 formation.

Nuno hasn’t taken Marshall on Wolves’ training camp in Spain this week, with the midfielder looking to complete a move away from Molineux ahead of next week’s deadline day.

Sunderland have expressed an interest in Marshall, but with Wolves looking to recoup £1.5m from his departure, it is unlikely he will be making the move to the Stadium of Light.

Marshall featured regularly under Paul Lambert during the second-half of last season to help Wolves avoid relegation, but his opportunities this year under Nuno have been scarce, with Marshall making just six Championship appearances.

Nuno has left Marshall out of his last 12 matchday squads in the Championship, last handing the midfielder a chance in early November, when he featured as a late substitute against Fulham.

The Verdict

Despite Marshall struggling for a chance under Nuno, he is still a competitive Championship player, who Wolves will face no trouble moving on this month for the fee they desire.

Marshall has bags of second-tier experience, and finds himself the victim of an exceptionally talented squad at Molineux.

The next move has to be the right one for the 26-year-old, who is sure to be itching for a regular starting berth.
