Wolverhampton Wanderers’ deals for Jack Colback and Scott McTominay are off, according to Express and Star journalist Tim Spiers on Twitter.

The Black Country outfit has been linked with moves for the midfield pair, who could be available on loan deals from Newcastle and Manchester United respectively.

Although Spiers has suggested the deals are dead in the water, Wolves remain in the transfer market at this late stage of the window, with a striker and central midfielder on the radar of boss Nuno Espirito Santo.

The club has enjoyed an excellent start to the new campaign, and lie in fourth place following the opening five rounds of fixtures.

Santo has been busy in the summer window, bringing in the likes of Ruben Neves, Willy Boly and Diogo Jota, as the club go in search of a return to the Premier League following a five year absence.

Chinese owners the Fosun Group have significantly backed Santo in the market, and are expected to do so until the window slams shut this evening.

The Verdict: Wolves will certainly bring in several more players before the close of the window, and will have identified alternative targets to Colback and McTominay.

Both players are available to loan, and if Santo had seriously been interested in the pair, he would have sealed their transfers.

The Portuguese manager has prioritised other signings, so expect players to come in from abroad in the coming hours.
