Wolves boss Bruno Lage has revealed that he will make his decision about whether to recall Dion Sanderson from loan at Birmingham City "for sure in January"

Having impressed while on loan at Sunderland last term, Sanderson joined the Blues on a season-long deal.

The 21-year-old centre-back has been a regular fixture in Lee Bowyer's side since September – helping them keep a clean sheet in four of his last six appearances.

But the Premier League club do have the option to recall Sanderson in the winter window and when pressed on the situation earlier this week, Lage revealed when he was likely to make his final decision.

He told Birmingham Live: "We are thinking of everything, so if we need to, for sure in January we'll make our decision.

"The club will try to do what's best for the player because they are happy at the moment, they are playing but also we need to decide the best for the club so it will be our decision - it will be the best for the player and the best for the club."

Wolves have gone with a back three of Romain Saïss, Max Kilman, and Conor Coady for the majority of the season though with Willy Boly suffering another injury, he may be needed as cover.

The Verdict

It seems Blues fans can't breathe a sigh of relief just yet as Lage won't make a final decision about the defender's future until January.

Given he's featuring regularly for the Championship club, previously it looked a strange decision to recall the central defender.

If everyone was fit, Sanderson would likely be sixth in the pecking order meaning he'd not get much action at Molineux but injuries to Boly and Yerson Mosquera mean he may be needed in January.

Blues fans will be hoping that duo recover quickly.
