According to a report in the local media, Shrewsbury Town are set to run the rule over Wolves striker Niall Ennis before deciding whether to keep him or send him back in January.

The Shropshire Star is reporting that Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Hurst will consider his options after Niall Ennis has suffered a frustrating spell with the League One high flyers.

Niall Ennis has not featured for Shrewsbury Town since August 12th as he needed surgery after picking up an injury to the meniscus in his knee.

The young striker has returned to Wolves, where he is in rehab at the West Midlands side's Compton base.

With his loan deal set to last until the end of the season, Hurst has confirmed that he will be considering whether to keep Ennis when January arrives.

The 18-year-old is highly rated by Wolves but it remains to be seen whether Shrewsbury Town still need him.

Shrewsbury Town sit at the top of the League One table after sixteen games, despite losing 1-0 at Peterborough United today.

Hurst will consider his options in January as his side have five players on loan, which is the maximum that a team can field in a match day squad.

The Verdict

A January assessment seems wise for all parties.

Ennis will not want to be rushed back, Wolves will need to decide the best move for him and Shrewsbury have the option of bringing in another player if the teenager is sent back.

While the youngster is a promising player, he might not be what Shrewsbury need right now.
