Wolverhampton Wanderers are interested in signing Fiorentina defender Bruno Gaspar, according to reports in Italy.

Italian media outlet Tutto Mercato Web is reporting that Wolves and Olympiakos are keen on Gaspar.

Wolves are readying a move for the 25-year-old as they look to add another right-back to their squad.

Matt Doherty has been the first choice option at right-wing-back in Nuno Espirito's side this season but he wants to add strength in depth in that department and he is searching for new players.

Ryan Fredericks of Fulham has been touted as another possible target in that position if the Cottagers fail to win promotion via the Championship play-offs.

And now Gaspar is on Wolves' radar.

The former Portugal under-18 international has been tracked by the newly-promoted side, who have a strong Portuguese contingent at the club.

Gaspar came through the youth ranks at Benfica and represented the club's B side before moving to Vitoria Guimaraes on a permanent deal following two successful loan stints.

Last summer, he moved away from Portugal for the first time, joining Fiorentina in the top tier of Italian football.

But Gaspar has only played 16 competitive matches for Fiorentina and has only started six Serie A games.

Although he has a contract until 2022, Wolves are trying to snap Gaspar up this summer.

The Verdict

Gaspar could be interested in a move to the Premier League with first team chances limited at Fiorentina thus far.

Wolves would be an attractive prospect for him because they have a number of Portuguese players to help him settle in the country.

Nuno definitely needs to sign a right-back this summer to compete with Doherty and Gaspar has shown plenty of promise during his time in Portugal.
