Brentford manager Thomas Frank faces a battle in the summer to retain the services of winger Said Benrahma, with Newcastle reported as one of the clubs interested in landing the 24-year-old, according to the Daily Express. with the Toon willing to pay £15million for the Algerian, who has helped the Bees to fifth in the Championship.

Benrahma has been one of the standout players in the second tier and he has proved to be a huge bargain since arriving from Nice for just £1.5m in 2018.

So would Benrahma prove a good fit for Newcastle and is he good enough for the Premier League?

We discuss.........

Chris Gallagher

"Without a doubt he's good enough.

"Benrahma would be an incredible signing for Newcastle but you have to say that he should be aiming to join a club better than the Magpies.

"In terms of ability, he could easily play for a top six side in the Premier League - he really is that good. And, at 24-years-old, Benrahma has his best years in front of him. So, if Newcastle pulled this off it would be a major coup.

"Some may think he needs to prove himself in the top-flight before he gets a move to a top side but the likes of James Maddison and Jack Grealish have shown there are quality players at this level and the Algerian is as good as those pair."

“Benrahma is definitely good enough for Newcastle if they were to make a move for him, considering how well he has been playing this season.

“The Brentford winger would provide Steve Bruce’s side with something that they have been sorely lacking this season and that’s an end-product.

“Newcastle’s forwards are currently faltering on the goals front, so bringing in a winger with a real eye for goal and creativity in the final third should be a priority.

“Benrahma will no doubt be playing in the Premier League next season, whether that’s with the Bees are elsewhere, but it’s certain that he has the quality to play for Newcastle or even higher.”

Ben Lang

"Benrahma has once again excelled in the Championship this season and he will definitely be playing in the top-flight next term regardless of whether Brentford win promotion. Newcastle should be all over this deal.

"The attacker has quickly become one of the most exciting players in the EFL, and I think this means he would be more than good enough to fit in at Newcastle, while adding some serious quality to Steve Bruce's side.

"I can see it being somewhat difficult for Newcastle to seal a deal for Benrahma given the level of interest he is likely to attract, but the fact he would be a guaranteed starter at St James' Park could help the Toon's cause.

"It is only a matter of time before Benrahma makes the natural step up to the Premier League, and I think he possesses the skills and overall quality to be a potentially big hit at Newcastle is he ends up making the move."
