Sunderland, it's pretty safe to say, have not had a good season and it does seriously look like they'll be on their way to League One at the end of the campaign.

If any good can come of that, though, it should be that they can finally clear the decks and piles of deadwood that have dragged the club down and that is what they'll be looking to do.

They might just end up losing the brighter talents they have too, though, with George Honeyman certainly one of those - just take his stats from Friday's game against Derby as an example:

A young midfielder, Honeyman has had a decent enough campaign in the circumstances and he is does look good enough to stay in the Championship, even if most of his team-mates do not.

Certainly, he is the sort of player that could really flourish towards the sharp end of the second tier and when you look at his composure on the ball and link-up play, surely they'll be suitors queuing up.

Undoubtedly, he's still got things to improve on but he's been one of the few shining lights for the Black Cats this season and it's surely important for his career that he's not thrown into League One after this campaign.
