Nottingham Forest's season looks to be fizzling out, with the club's hopes of a play-off finish now hanging by a thread after another disappointing weekend.

Inconsistency has been their Achilles heel this term, with the East Midlands outfit picking up back-to-back league wins just once all season long.

Martin O'Neill's men will have been full of confidence following a 2-1 win over Swansea City last week, but they were quickly brought back down to earth after a 2-1 loss to Rotherham at the weekend.

Goals from Michael Smith and Michael Ihiekwe secured an invaluable win for the Millers and placed Forest's hopes of a top six finish in severe doubt, with tensions running high amongst the City Ground faithful.

When you compare O'Neill to his predecessor Aitor Karanka, the pair are like chalk and cheese, but most fans will now be ruing the day that the club forced the latter into resigning.

Karanka's departure from Forest raised many eyebrows in January, with most feeling like the board had been very unfair in putting the pressure on the Spaniard, despite the club sitting within touching distance of the play-off spots.

His style of football clearly suited the players much more than O'Neill's does, and he got the best out of the likes of Joe Lolley and club-record signing Joao Carvalho who can change a game on their own.

O'Neill's tactics, however, look outdated, with the midfield duo of Ben Watson and Jack Colback being overran by a gutsy Rotherham side at  the weekend.

Plenty of fans are calling for a change at the City Ground, and you get the feeling that they would Karanka back in a heartbeat if they had the chance.
