After weeks of speculation linking the player with a big money move to the club, Middlesbrough have finally agreed a deal with Nottingham Forest to bring Britt Assombalonga to the Riverside in a £15 million deal.

The former Peterborough man links up with Garry Monk’s squad ahead of the season opener at Wolves next month, and the young manager will be pleased to have secured his top transfer target well in advance of the game at Molineux.

Monk had money to splash this summer following Boro’s relegation from the Premier League, and the big money signings of Assombalonga, Jonny Howson and Martin Braithwaite have highlighted the ambition Boro bosses are showing to get their side back in the Premier League at the first time of asking.

14 goals in only 20 starts last season will excite Boro fans, who will know that if the striker is kept fit, that he could easily surpass the 20 goal mark on Teesside next semester.

Danish forward Braithwaite hit 11 for French side Toulouse, and has consistently impressed in the French top flight in 2013.

With the likes of Patrick Bamford and Rudy Gestede already on the books, Middlesbrough have quickly put together one of the strongest strike forces in the league, and these impressive quartet should be enough to fire the north east side to a top two place.
