Some Sheffield Wednesday fans may already be hoping this season is over as soon as possible, with off-field problems hanging over the club.

On Christmas Day, Wednesday were sitting pretty in third in the Championship, with some touting the club for a possible return to the Premier League after a 20-year absence.

After a poor run of run, however, Wednesday look destined for a mid-table finish, with a 21st consecutive season outside the top-flight beckoning.

Off the field, some Wednesday fans will be looking over their shoulder, with Sky Sports claiming that a number of Championship clubs are demanded the Owls are handed a points deduction for alleged misconduct over the sale of Hillsborough.

The Owls have a number of first-team players out of contract this summer and, it seems that a number of players could be leaving the club this summer.

Here we take a look at two Wednesday players who will surely be looking for a fresh start this summer...

Keiren Westwood

35-year-old Westwood has been with the Owls since 2014 and played a big role in the 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 seasons where the Owls reached consecutive play-offs.

Under Garry Monk, Westwood has seen his opportunities limited but does still have one year left on his contract after this summer.

Should Monk remain in charge at Hillsborough it wouldn't be surprising to see Westwood leave the club, and it wouldn't be surprising to see a number of Championship clubs happy to snap up the veteran goalkeeper.

Are these Wednesday facts true or false?

Jordan Rhodes

Rhodes is one of a handful of players who are out of contract at Hillsborough this summer.

The 30-year-old joined the Owls back in 2017 but spent last season on loan at Norwich City, and it is fair to say, has struggled to live up to expectations at Hillsborough.

Rhodes has drifted in and out of Wednesday's squad this term and with potential financial implications lingering over the club, he could be one who opts for a fresh start away from Wednesday.

Should he decide to leave or is not offered a new deal, there will be, like in the case of Westwood, plenty of clubs competing for his signature in the summer.
