Leeds United are aiming to end their 16-year exile from the Premier League this term, after losing out in the play-off semi-final last season.

Despite last season's disappointment, Leeds are in a positive position to make a long-awaited return to the top-flight with everyone connected with the club hoping the side put right the wrongs of last term.

United's squad contains a handful of players who are either out on loan or could be deemed surplus to requirements come the end of the season, regardless of what division United may find themselves in.

Although there are a number of players who look set to certainly leave Leeds at the end of the season such as Conor Shaughnessy and Laurens De Bock, there are also a handful of current first-team players who could be heading for the Elland Road exit.

Here we take a look at two players who look like they could be eyeing a fresh start come the summer...

Gaetano Berardi

31-year-old Gaetano Berardi's contract is still up for renewal and is yet to extend a deal; he revealed to BBC Radio Leeds back in December that the Whites are yet to offer him a new contract.

Berardi has been a cult figure at Elland Road since arriving at the club back in 2014, but it does seem that the Swiss defender may be tempted to move away from the club in the summer.

Seemingly already down the pecking order at the club, it would be likely Berardi would look for a different challenge should Leeds win promotion to the Premier League.

Are these Leeds United facts true or false?

Barry Douglas

Douglas seems to have failed to live up to expectations since arriving from Wolves in the summer of 2018.

The Scot managed five assists in 26 appearances for United last term but has so far found opportunities limited at Elland Road this time around.

Visibly down the pecking order at the moment at Elland Road with the likes of Stuart Dallas and Ezjgan Alioski ahead of the 30-year-old; as it stands Douglas seems one of the likely candidates to hope for a fresh start away from Elland Road this summer.
