It has been quite the fall from grace for Oliver Burke over the last few years, with his turbulent career looking set to take yet another twist.
The 21-year-old became one of the most in-demand players in the country after putting in a string of impressive performances for the Reds, but his career has been on a downward spiral ever since his departure from the City Ground in 2015.
The Scottish winger secured a big-money move to Bundesliga outfit RB Leipzig, which quickly went downhill after a brief period of time. A move to West Brom was meant to reignite his career, but even a return to English football failed to revitalise the winger.
The 21-year-old made just two league starts for the Baggies before his loan switch to Scottish champions Celtic in January, a move that has given him a new lease of life. The winger is back to playing his best football with the SPFL leaders, scoring four goals and producing one assist for the club.
And it seems as if his form for the Hoopes hasn’t gone unnoticed, with reports claiming that Premier League side Crystal Palace are interested in signing the wide-man when he returns to Albion in the summer.
The Eagles’ director of football is Dougie Freedman, who would have played an integral role in developing Burke during his time with Forest.
For many, a move to Premier League would be an opportunity to jump at – but if you are Burke, surely you’d want to stay at Celtic?
Burke has a lot to thank Celtic for – former manager Brendan Rodgers gave him a chance to get back to his best, by simply giving himself a consistent run of games. The winger has also made an impact under Neil Lennon, and is clearly highly regarded at Celtic Park.
A lot is said about the quality and lack of competitiveness of Scottish football, but whilst he is enjoying his football, Burke must be determined to stay at Celtic, to become of the best players in the SPFL whilst also appearing on the European stage.
