After a hugely impressive season so far, Nottingham Forest fans will be desperate to keep hold of midfielder Jack Colback beyond this season.

The 29-year-old impressed Aitor Karanka during a brief loan spell with the Reds last term, enough so to secure his services for yet another year this time around.

The midfielder has been a regular for both the Spaniard and Martin O'Neill since the latter took over at the turn of the year, making 34 appearances in total this term.

Forest have a plethora of midfielders on their books, but Colback has been the standout player at the City Ground - he provides real defensive steel and breaks up play incredibly well, and is a key cog in the Reds midfield.

And the East Midlands club have recently been dealt a huge boost in their pursuit of pursuing Colback on a permanent basis, with reports from the Chronicle claiming that Colback could be one of six players to depart St. James' Park in the summer.

It is believed that the Reds will be offered the chance to sign the 29-year old permanently in the summer, with only a year left on his current deal in the North East.

If you were Colback now, you have got to be desperate to stay at Forest beyond this season. The midfielder has a lot to owe to Forest after reigniting his career over the last year-and-a-half, and in O'Neill, he has a manager who believes in him and gets the best out of him.

Ultimately, he is gaining regular game-time at the City Ground, after being frozen out by Rafa Benitez. If Forest don't win promotion to the top-flight this season, then the midfielder will be desperate to help the Reds fight for promotion next term.
