Wolverhampton Wanderers are in the midst of a revolution, and the eye raising acquisitions of Ruben Neves and Willy Boly have sent shockwaves through the Championship.

With further men expected through the doors of Molineux before the transfer window slams shut at the start of September, a new look Wolves side will take to the pitch when Middlesbrough come to town in the start of season showcase in less than three weeks time.

Just like with any big spend however, there are casualties, and one such victim this summer appears to be academy graduate Dominic Iorfa, who has been shipped off to Championship rivals Ipswich Town on a season long loan deal.

The full-back recently returned from England U21 duty in Poland at the European Championships, and would have kept a keen eye on happenings at his boyhood club whilst with the international side.

The 22-year-old has featured heavily for the club since his debut in 2014, and had begun to firmly establish himself as the first choice right back under former boss Paul Lambert, as well as filling in in the middle when required.

Wolves’ loss however is certainly Mick McCarthy’s gain, and Iorfa will slot in perfectly into a Tractor Boys back line in need of reinforcements.

Iorfa’s versatility will be a key asset for McCarthy next season, and the giant 6 ft 4 in defender may find himself deployed more regularly at the heart of the defence at Portman Road.

The youngster will know a solid season at Ipswich could either earn him a more secure position at his parent club or a potential move to the Premier League, so will utilise his time in Suffolk to great effect.

Iorfa’s father was an international for Nigeria, and the young player has considered switching his allegiance to the west African nation.

Impressing this season and capturing the attentions of Premier League bosses as well as England, and former U21 manager Gareth Southgate may be the player’s last chance of forcing his way into the first team set up before an international switch.

The upcoming season will be Iorfa’s most defining to date, and McCarthy has done well to tie such a prodigious young talent to his Ipswich side.
