Winning start for Pulis? Pundit makes his prediction ahead of Boro v Aston Villa

David Prutton is expecting Tony Pulis to make a winning start to life with Middlesbrough when they face Aston Villa in the Sky Bet Championship tomorrow afternoon, reports Sky Sports.

Writing in his prediction column for Sky Sports, Prutton has predicted Boro to pick up a 2-1 victory when Villa visit the Riverside Stadium, giving Pulis a winning start following his appointment.

Garry Monk lost his job with the Teessiders before Christmas, with Pulis appointed ahead of the Boxing Day clash with Bolton Wanderers, with the former West Bromwich Albion boss watching on as his new employers picked up a 2-0 victory.

Pulis will now move into the dugout tomorrow, as Boro looks to pile the pressure on Villa, who sit behind Boro on just goal difference in eighth.

Steve Bruce’s Villa side are currently on a five-match winless streak, which has resulted in the Villans sliding out of the Championship’s top-six in recent weeks, with the likes of Derby County, Leeds United and Sheffield United stealing a march.

Villa were defeated on Boxing Day, losing 2-1 against Brentford at Griffin Park, leaving Bruce’s side with just three points from the last available 15 in the Championship.

The Verdict

Many, like Prutton, are predicting Pulis to by the driving force behind Boro’s play-off push now, with the general feeling that he is a shrewd appointment.

Now is a good time to play Villa, who are struggling for serious form in the Championship, however, Bruce’s side still carry a major threat, which Pulis will be aware of.

It will be close at the Riverside, but this could be the start of Boro showing us what they are all about. Home win.
