Lewis Morgan has admitted he was gutted he couldn't help Sunderland back into the Championship as his loan spell comes to an end.

The winger arrived at the Stadium of Light in January from Celtic with the focus on helping the Black Cats win promotion.

And, whilst the Scotland international played well when given a chance, the season ended with disappointment as they lost the play-off final to Charlton at Wembley.

Morgan played 82 minutes that day and is now heading back up north to the Scottish champions but he took to Twitter to send a message to all connected to the Wearside club revealing how he enjoyed his time with the Black Cats.

"Would like to thank everyone associated with @SunderlandAFC for the last few months. Gutted that we weren’t able to achieve promotion but I’ve no doubt the club will get back to where it belongs. It was a privilege to represent you, Good luck."

Altogether, he made 20 appearances in the league for the side, scoring one goal - in the victory over Doncaster on Good Friday.

The Verdict

Sunderland fans will appreciate the contribution Morgan made to the team as he always gave his best and clearly has a lot of quality.

He perhaps should've weighed in with more goals and assists but overall he played well and it's a shame for Morgan that he couldn't help the side over the line at Wembley.

Overall, he obviously enjoyed his time at the club going by this message, although it suggests he won't be returning next season.
