Wigan Athletic have given themselves a fighting chance of retaining their Championship status this season with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Millwall recently.

An own goal from Millwall's Shaun Hutchinson proved to be the difference between the two sides at the weekend, as the Latics closed the gap on their relegation-threatened rivals.

Wigan are currently sat 22nd in the second-tier standings, and are now just two points adrift of Huddersfield Town with 12 league games remaining of this year's campaign.

The Latics travel to the Madejski Stadium on Wednesday evening to take on Reading, in what could potentially be a tricky test for Paul Cook's side.

But who do we expect to be included in the Wigan starting XI for the game against the Royals?

Find out below....

It's unlikely that we'll see too many changes to the Wigan Athletic starting XI for this game, as Cook will be keen to keep the team that picked up an impressive win over Millwall at the weekend.

David Marshall kept his sixth clean sheet of the league season to date against the Lions, and will know that he could be in for a busy evening against an attack-minded Reading team that caused Leeds United problems in their last match.

Cedric Kipre and Leon Balogun were at the heart of that win over Millwall on Saturday, and are almost certain to retain their place in the starting XI for the trip to Berkshire. Wigan haven't lost a game since Balogun has come into the side, and he'll be hoping to make it four games unbeaten on Wednesday evening.

Kal Naismith and Nathan Byrne make up the defensive quartet for the Latics, that will be in for a tough test against Mark Bowen's side.

Sam Morsy is certain to start in the centre of midfield, and is likely to be partnered by Joe Williams, who has already made 28 appearances in all competitions for Wigan this season.

Jamal Lowe only has two goals to his name so far for Wigan, and he'll be hoping he can recapture the type of form that saw him earn a move to the Latics from Portsmouth in the summer of 2019.

Michael Jacobs is likely to retain his place in the starting XI, and will be keen to cause the likes of Andy Yiadom and Omar Richards problems throughout the night on Wednesday.

Gavin Massey could be in line to return to the starting XI, as his pace on the counter-attack could come in useful for Paul Cook's side at the Madejski Stadium.

Kieffer Moore is almost certain to lead the line for Wigan against Reading, and will be hoping he can add to his goal tally which currently stands at five in all competitions so far this season.
