Aston Villa winger Anwar El-Ghazi has admitted to being an 'emotional' footballer following his fine run of form in Dean Smith's side, report the club's official website

The Dutchman scored both of the club's goals in last Friday's 2-2 draw with local rivals West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns but says it has not been easy to reach that level.

"I am an emotional football player," the 23-year-old said.

"I have worked very hard to start again. I am really enjoying it.

"The fans are shouting my name. It gives me such a good feeling. I am very happy to give them something back."

Steve Bruce signed the winger from Ajax in the summer on an initial season-long loan but with a view to a permanent deal.

After a promising opening two games, in which he scored and notched an assist, he was dropped from the squad, only making infrequent substitute appearances.

Smith brought him on as a substitute against Nottingham Forest in the famous 5-5 draw and he scored, earning him a starting spot for the next two matches.

He will be hoping to start again when Villa host Stoke City on Saturday.

The verdict

Emotional players can often go on to be a club's best players if they are able to keep them in check.

This is something that El Ghazi has appeared to have become more astute at doing over the last few weeks and is finally starting to justify the excitement that surrounded his arrival.

Smith has always had a habit for getting the best out of his attacking players and El Ghazi looks like he could be latest to benefit from his coaching.
