Window open: 3 transfers Huddersfield Town could see happen in just the next few weeks

After coming so close to Premier League promotion last season, a strong summer is vital to ensure that Huddersfield Town can carry their momentum into the 2022/23 campaign.

The start of the new Championship season is now less than two months away and as of last week, the transfer window is officially open.

Carlos Corberan and co. did some fantastic business a year ago and will be hoping to repeat that in the coming weeks.

But with top flight clubs sniffing around a few of their players, we could see some outgoings as well as incomings.

With the window open, here are three transfers Huddersfield could see happen in just the next few weeks…

Lewis O’Brien departs

Keeping hold of Lewis O’Brien will be a tough ask this summer with growing Premier League interest and a reported £12 million release clause in his contract.

The midfielder was excellent for the Terriers last term and is more than deserving of a move to the top flight.

The Huddersfield Daily Examiner (print edition, 9th June, back page) reported last week that Crystal Palace, Southampton, and West Ham United are all keen while Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport that Leeds United’s pursuit of O’Brien is ongoing.

The release clause means things could happen fairly quickly once someone makes a move so we may see him depart in the next few weeks.

Can you remember how much Huddersfield paid for these 22 summer signings?

Jesse Debrah joins

Huddersfield have had success moving for non-league talent in the past – with the signing of Sorba Thomas clearly a masterstroke – and it appears they could be set to get another deal over the line soon.

Halifax Town centre-back Jesse Debrah is the player in question, with the 22-year-old strongly linked to the Championship club.

There are differing reports over the status of the deal, with The Sun reporting it’s done and Yorkshire Live claiming there is still work to be done, but one thing that is consistent is the Terriers are interested.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if it was wrapped up sooner rather than later.

Terriers win the race for James McAtee

Premier League loanees have served Huddersfield very well in previous seasons – with the likes of Levi Colwill and Emile Smith-Rowe impressing – and the Terriers have got their eyes on another in Manchester City’s James McAtee.

Alan Nixon has reported via Patreon that Man City are set to allow the Yorkshire club to hold talks with McAtee over a loan move to the John Smith’s Stadium.

There have been links to Brighton and Swansea City but Huddersfield are said to be leading the race and if talks go well, he could move across the Pennines in the next few weeks.
