Preparing for life in League Two, AFC Wimbledon will be eyeing up an immediate return to England's third tier.

New Dons boss Johnnie Jackson will be hoping that he can put together a team that is able to challenge at the top end of the division.

As per a report from Football Insider, the London club have joined the race for Rangers attacker Josh McPake, with the 20-year-old spending time on loan with Morecambe and Tranmere Rovers last season.

A previous report from Football Insider credited Raith Rovers and Carlisle United with an interest in the 20-year-old, with Wimbledon being the latest club to cast their eyes over McPake.

The young winger's Rangers future seems to be closed, with the earlier report suggesting that he is free to find a new club on a permanent deal.

The verdict

AFC Wimbledon is a destination where young players have thrived in recent seasons, with the success seen by the likes of Ayoub Assal, Jack Rudoni and Ryan Longman showing the London club in a good light.

Plough Lane is certainly a favourable destination for that reason, and whilst they struggled in League One last season, the talent they possess would suggest that they will be able to cope with the drop.

It remains to be seen if any more clubs join the race for the Scottish winger, and whilst he struggled for regular game time in League Two, he is still just 20 years of age and still possesses a high enough ceiling.

This would justify higher-level interest coming in for him.
