Reading midfielder Danny Williams has undergone knee surgery for a second time and will miss the start of the new Sky Bet Championship season, reports GetReading.
The 25 year-old was forced the miss the World Cup in Brazil as a result of the problem, despite appearing for the Royals just three weeks after the initial operation in March.
Williams’ setback adds another name to an ever-growing injury list for manager Nigel Adkins, who has already lost Garath McCleary for the start of the season after the Jamaican underwent back surgery last week.
Newly-named club captain Jem Karacan also remains on the sidelines after missing last season with ligament damage, whilst there are injury concerns over midfielder Danny Guthrie and striker Nick Blackman ahead of their pre-season friendly against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
The Royals missed out on a place in the Championship play-offs last season after a final day draw with Burnley, and begin their quest for a return to the top-flight away at Wigan Athletic on August 9.
