Bradford City are showing serious ambition in League One this season, dumping manager Stuart McCall whilst still in a play-off place.

Simon Grayson has arrived in the hot seat, a manager proven at this level after earning promotion with Preston North End. Grayson is on a short-term deal, tasked with restoring the Bantams to the second tier for the first time in a decade. The continuation of his deal surely rests on how his side perform in front of goal over the coming weeks.

They're currently three points outside the top six but with a game in hand, however they've failed to win in their previous nine matches. In that time they've scored just six goals and come the summer, that must be addressed by the manager. Whilst Charlie Wyke has bagged 13 this season, his fellow forwards are lagging behind.

Two that might fear for their future under the new gaffer are Shay McCartan and Paul Taylor. McCarten arrived from Accrington Stanley in June 2017 for an undisclosed six-figure sum, but as yet has failed to impress. He's scored four in eighteen appearances, although three of those have come in the last couple of months, earning his side a late draw against Bury and a win against Fleetwood.

At 23-years old McCartan still has plenty of time to prove himself and is on a three-year deal, but he will also be very sellable in the summer. If Grayson does manage to get Bradford promoted, would the young Northern Irish striker be ready for Championship football?

30-year old Paul Taylor is a more experienced head, but he to has struggled for goals in the claret and amber of the Bantams. He's got six from 33 outings, his largest haul since 2011/12. However, for a player once valued at £2.2m, is six goals enough to secure your place in an ambitious side? Taylor didn't represent an investment, he arrived on a free transfer after being released by fellow promotion hopefuls Peterborough where he scored three times in 39 matches.

Simon Grayson will be looking for a route back into the Championship and Bradford City are a club that can achieve that in terms of size and stature. Their Valley Parade ground is a setting worthy of second tier football and in Charlie Wyke, they have a player who wouldn't look out of place at a higher level. Whether Stuart McCall's signings McCartan or Taylor have the credentials to perform on the bigger stage is the pertinent question, surely if Grayson doesn't feel they do then they'll find themselves surplus to requirements come May.
