Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich Town are continuing to surprise many in the Sky Bet Championship, and heading into October, they are looking like a side capable of challenging for a place in the top-six.
Ipswich are currently eighth in the Championship table, knowing that victory in their game in hand would see them occupy a place in the play-off places – highlighting the strong start McCarthy’s side have had.
Key to Ipswich’s success has been the goalscoring antics of their strikeforce, with Martyn Waghorn, Joe Garner and David McGoldrick, already bagging a combined total of 16 goals across all competitions.
The form of his attacking trio will please McCarthy, who will not currently be regretting his decision to let Kieffer Moore leave Portman Road on-loan during the summer transfer window.
Moore joined Rotherham United temporarily during the summer, with Ipswich looking to hand the 25-year-old an opportunity of regular football in League One with the Millers.
The forward is so far impressing, having scored nine goals already for Rotherham in League One, including a memorable hat-trick in the 5-0 victory over Southend United back in August and the winner against Northampton Town last Saturday.
Whilst we believe that McCarthy will not be regretting his decision to let Moore leave at the current time, he will be keeping a watchful eye on the striker’s form and could live to regret his decision later in the season.
Waghorn, Garner and McGoldrick are doing an excellent job in attack for Ipswich at this current time, but there is certain to be a point in the season where McCarthy is looking for an alternative to score goals.
That player could have been Moore, and whilst it is good to see the striker impressing out on-loan, there could be a time when McCarthy wishes he could turn to the 25-year-old as Ipswich go in search of the play-offs.
