Wigan only managed a draw with Cheltenham at the weekend so will be determined to ensure they can get back to winning ways against Oxford in midweek.

Despite the Latics’ current position in League One – sitting comfortably in the automatic promotion places with some games in hand – Oxford will not be an easy opponent to overcome. They too are harbouring play-off ambitions and a victory over Leam Richardson’s side here would be a huge boost to them.

Wigan though are well-equipped to deal with the U’s though, having recruited well over the last two transfer windows and powering past tough opposition throughout the campaign so far. With the side unbeaten in their last five in all competitions, they’ll surely fancy their chances again here.

With that in mind then, who could get the nod for this midweek game?

Even though they weren’t able to take the three points against Cheltenham, I can’t see them changing much of the lineup for this fixture.

Josh Magennis is a real out-and-out striker, well capable of producing the goods on a consistent basis in League One. He created more chances and won more duels than any other player on the pitch against Cheltenham – and the goals will surely come if he gets more chances. For that reason, he’s likely to stay as the main attacking outlet.

Even though Will Keane didn’t have his best game, his record in front of goal should see him remain in the side and the same can be said for James McClean. On the right though, Gavin Massey came off the bench and looked lively for the Latics at the weekend so could come in.

In the middle of the field, new boy Graeme Shinnie and Tom Naylor will likely retain their positions to boot and the backline too (including an impressive Kelland Watts) should all hold onto their positions.
