James Milner has admitted in an interview with The Sportsman that he would consider a return to Leeds as his contract at Liverpool continues to run down, with the versatile 33-year-old set to be released from the table toppers next summer as things stand.

The former Aston Villa and Manchester City star is currently reluctant to rule out any options, but spoke fondly about a potential switch to former side Leeds and also hinted at chancing his arm in coaching.

So is a move to Leeds likely to happen for Milner? Do you expect him to rock up at Elland Road again as a Whites player?

We discuss........

Ned Holmes

"Yes, I do think Milner will make the switch to Elland Road at some point.

"The Englishman has expressed a lot of regret over his exit from the Whites back in 2004, so I think the motivation is certainly there for a reunion.

"However, with the way Liverpool are playing and the important role he still has, I can't see Milner leaving this summer.

"It may hinge on whether Leeds are able to end their 15-year absence from the Premier League."

George Harbey

"I would be absolutely amazed if this move went through to be honest.

"Milner, for me, is quite easily still one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, and he has been such an important player for Liverpool as they look to win the Premier League title this season.

"He may be getting on a bit now, but his quality on the ball is unreal and the way he dictates the tempo of the game in midfield is extraordinary.

"Even if he did leave Liverpool, I couldn't see Jurgen Klopp wanting to get rid of him completely - i think that he would want to keep at the club in some capacity, whether that be as a player-coach or something like that."

Josh Cole

“Milner’s return to Elland Road could hinge on whether they achieve promotion to the Premier League next May under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa.

“Whilst it could be argued that the midfielder is too good to be playing at Championship level week-in, week-out, the prospect of lining up for Leeds in the top-flight may be too hard for him to turn down.

“Before going on to achieve a great deal of success with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool, Milner made a barnstorming start to his career as a teenager at Leeds after graduating from their academy.

“Sold by the club amidst financial uncertainty in 2004 to Newcastle United, the 33-year-old will have a point to prove if he moves back to the Whites in 2020.”
