Hartlepool United have enforced yet another signing in their bid to reinstate their presence in League Two, which will see Stoke City forward Will Goodwin arrive on loan until the new year.

Goodwin is now the 10th fresh face to enter the gates of Victoria Road, with Jonathan Mitchell, Tyler Burey and Matty Daley surfacing as some of the club's high-profile acquisitions from the Championship.

Meanwhile, the likes of Olufela Olomola, Reagan Ogle, Martin Smith, Mark Cullen, Jake Lawlor and Neill Byrne have also joined following Pools' promotion, where they ended a four year absence from the fourth-tier by overcoming Torquay United in the National League play-off final.

Supporters will be hoping that their recruitment mission will pay dividends, as Hartlepool have identified both youth and experience to bolster their hopes of braving the tide and acclaiming survival this term.

It is a particularly exciting opportunity for Goodwin, though, who is yet to make his EFL bow and went on to express his delight at being handed a chance to prove his worth, citing the move as a 'no-brainer'.

The 19-year-old- who will don the number 11 shirt for Dave Challinor's outfit- has been involved with the Potters' under-23s set-up since joining from National League North side Chester back in February.

After making the move to the North East, Goodwin told the club's website: "Once I heard Hartlepool were interested, it was a no brainer for me.

"I was at the game against Crewe and the fans were so passionate. It is such a huge club even for League Two and it is a real honour to sign on loan. I can't wait to get started."

He provided an inkling as to what the Hartlepool faithful could see from their latest signing, too, adding: "I'm a striker, I like to run in behind, get the ball at my feet and link play up. Hopefully I can put the ball in the net a few times but most importantly, I'll work hard for the team and never stop running.

"I knew the manager before I came here, now I've come here and spoken to him about how we're going to play and things like that so it suits me.

The Verdict:

Already, encouraging signs have been presented in the form of Goodwin's admission of his player profile, which appears to suit Hartlepool down to the ground; it is hoped that this will translate quickly.

Hartlepool still need more goals in their team, and while Goodwin is yet to undergo the trials and tribulations of this level, he will no doubt keep their forwards on their toes and push for a starting spot.

He has been held in a high regard in Staffordshire, frequently training with the first-team and making his debut in pre-season. This will only incite further excitement among those affiliated with Pools, who will certainly be eager to see how he makes the step up and builds on his promise.
