Cardiff City have made a solid start to life under new boss Neil Harris after securing four points from his first two league matches in charge against Charlton and Stoke.

The Bluebirds produced a second-half comeback to seal a 2-2 draw at The Valley in Harris' first outing, while they then edged to a 1-0 victory over Stoke at the Cardiff City Stadium in midweek courtesy of Leandro Bacuna's goal.

Harris will have learned much about his new squad during these early matches, but the former Millwall boss is also yet to welcome back a number of key figures to the fold who are currently sidelined with injury.

These include the likes of Robert Glatzel, Joe Ralls and Sol Bamba, with the latter having made just one appearance for the Bluebirds since suffering a serious injury back in February, when Cardiff were still a Premier League.

Bamba has been an integral figure for Cardiff since he joined the club in 2016, and there can be no doubt that he will a valuable asset to the squad when he finally makes his long-awaited return from injury.

In our latest FLW Six Pointer, we take a look at Bamba's comeback trail...

Firstly, how long has Bamba now been absent for Cardiff?

"Bamba has largely been absent for the Bluebirds since he suffered a serious injury against Wolves back in early March, where he was forced off in the 47th minute in what was his final Premier League appearance of the season.

"It quickly became clear that Bamba was to be ruled out of action for some time, and this saw him spend the end of the season and the summer on the treatment table with the Bluebirds.

"Bamba made his long-awaited return from injury when he was introduced as a substitute during Cardiff's victory over Birmingham earlier this month, but he has not featured since with the Bluebirds taking great care over his injury."

Has he been missed by the Bluebirds?

"Very much so.

"The injury saw the break-up of Cardiff's centre-back partnership between Bamba and Sean Morrison, with the duo marshalling the back line as Cardiff won the Championship the previous season, and the Welsh side were relegated from the top-flight soon after Bamba's injury.

"Cardiff's defence has also struggled to find consistency this season with Aden Flint and Morrison sometimes looking shaky at the back, while the latter has also suffered an injury problem of his own this season which has seen Curtis Nelson enter the side of late."

How is Bamba getting on with his recovery?

"Harris confirmed to WalesOnline this week that Bamba's recovery is going well as he delivered an impressive performance for the club's Under-23 side this week.

"It appears the defender has not suffered any setbacks as a result of this outing, which could put him in contention for a first-team spot in the near as the club continue to monitor his progress.

"The Cardiff boss emphasised that the club are taking great care with Bamba's injury, but it now appears he is getting up to speed with the rest of the squad at the club's training base."

Does it look like he will feature against Nottingham Forest on the weekend?

"This appears unlikely given that Harris will not want to take the risk on Bamba when he has other options available.

"It appears as though Bamba is still a couple of weeks from reaching full fitness, so the Cardiff boss will not want to risk the Ivory Coast defender when he already has the likes of Flint, Morrison and Nelson available.

"It remains to be seen which defensive partnership will start the game against Forest, but there is a good chance Harris will select Nelson and Flint given the pair kept a clean sheet last time out."

Who would Bamba replace in the Bluebirds' starting line-up?

"This should be a relatively simple decision for Harris when all the players are fit.

"There are some Cardiff fans who would perhaps like to see Bamba start alongside Nelson in the back line, but it would surelt be hard for Harris to look beyond a centre-back pairing of Bamba and Morrison.

"The duo have propelled Cardiff to success previously and have proven they can work well together, so this should definitely be Harris' preferred set-up when he has all his defenders fit."

Finally, do you think Bamba will be able to re-establish himself in the side when fit?

"Definitely. Cardiff's defence definitely needs a lift this season, and Bamba should be just the man to provide this despite the fact he is not getting any younger.

"However, Cardiff appear to be taking special care of Bamba's injury to ensure he can still perform at a high level when he returns, and his mere presence on the pitch will surely give the Bluebirds a lift this campaign."
