The signing of Jamal Blackman at Elland Road was finally something for the Leeds United faithful to celebrate.

A young, up and coming goalkeeper with bags of potential – what’s not to like?

Well, with former number one choice Bailey Peacock-Farrell now looking seemingly out of the picture, some have begun to consider the long lasting effects it may have on the shot stopper.

Both Blackman and Peacock-Farrell have the potential, and ability, to start between the sticks for the Lilywhites, but it will be the decision of one man in the end.

Marcelo Bielsa will certainly have some decisions to make when it comes to the goalkeeping position at the start of the new season. But, with Jamal Blackman seemingly arriving as the new number one, will BPF spend time out on loan, and will he be comfortable playing second fiddle?

We discuss the effects the signing of Jamal Blackman could have on Bailey Peacock-Farrell – for good, or for bad.

Jay Williams

I think we could see the opposite effect. Peacock-Farrell will spend a year fighting with Blackman for the starting spot and the pair will push each other to get even better.

Then, in a years’ time when Blackman returns to Chelsea, it will be time for Peacock-Farrell to finally assert himself as the long-term number one option.

Gary Hutchinson

If he doesn't play first team football, yes. BPF is still young though and might benefit from time out on loan.

Blackman will surely be the first choice and rightly so. He's a cracking keeper.

Jay Taylor

On the contrary, it should have the opposite effect.

Jamal Blackman coming in should make the goalkeeping situation more competitive at Elland Road.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell will either sink or swim but it should make things more competitive as they both fight for the number one shirt.
