The summer transfer window has come to an end with this year’s being arguably the most entertaining for quite some time.

One of the biggest transfer stories to come out of the Championship this summer was regarding the division’s top scorer, Chris Wood.

The Kiwi forward left Leeds United for a fee of £15 million to join Premier League side Burnley, managed by Sean Dyche, much to the dismay of the Elland Road faithful.

Ever since that day, Thomas Christiansen had been using what time he had left in the transfer window to find a replacement for the 25-year-old.

Rather than spending all £15 million on one big marquee signing, Christiansen opted to go for multiple smaller signings to bolster out this squad ahead of United’s promotion push this season.

Here at FLW, we do think that was a smart move.

Given how long the Championship season is, bringing in multiple players to strengthen the depth of your squad is always helpful.

But, will Leeds be missing out on a lethal striker this season?

It’s definitely a possibility.

Chris Wood was on fire for Leeds last season and whilst his goals weren’t enough to gain them promotion, or even a spot in the playoffs, not having that sort of firepower in his squad could cost Christiansen this season.

Pierre Michel-Lasogga, Pawel Cibicki, Jay Roy-Grot, and Caleb Ekuban have all been brought into the club to bolster the attack with the first three named all coming in after Wood’s departure.

Combined, those four strikers scored 28 league goals last season in a total of 94 games in their respective divisions. Chris Wood bagged 27 in 44 league games.

Having a lot of players surely adds depth, but does it add enough quality?

Only time will tell but the decisions made in this summer’s transfer market, whilst they look good now, could soon blow up in Christiansen’s face.
