Cardiff City have endured a mixed start to the Championship campaign under Neil Warnock, but will the 70-year-old regret letting this man leave in the summer?

After a 1-0 defeat at the hands of the Welsh counterparts Swansea at the weekend, Cardiff slumped to 14th in the Championship - six points off the drop-zone and as many off the play-off places.

Having been relegated from the Premier League last season in a haze of VAR and refereeing controversy, not a lot was expected of the Bluebirds back in the second tier this season.

The defeat at Swansea means they’re still without an away win all season, but their valiant home form (14 points from six games) has kept them shy of a relegation battle for now.

A handful of players left the club in the summer, and one of the departed was Kadeem Harris.

The 26-year-old subsequently joined Sheffield Wednesday on a free transfer and has since revitalised his career in South Yorkshire.

Harris has netted twice in the Championship this season and laid on as many assists as Garry Monk’s side sit 5th in the table, and looking to mount a play-off push come May next year.

Fans knew of his pace, dribbling ability and overall work-rate on the wing, but that wasn't enough for Warnock to keep him at the club going into this season.

He’d made a handful of appearances for Cardiff in the Premier League last season but failed to deliver on the big stage, and was subsequently let go by the club.

The veteran manager might now be ruing that decision though.

His side haven’t necessarily lacked goals, but they have at times lacked that cutting-edge in games - as shown in their defeat to Swansea.

Harris is a man who has that edge, that ability to change the game in a split-second, albeit on a slightly inconsistent basis.

Gavin Whyte and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing have occupied the flanks for Cardiff this season, and neither have managed to get on the score-sheet yet.

The latter in particular has earned his critics this season, no less after being one of his side’s more prolific players in the Premier League last season.

Sheffield Wednesday fans feel they found a scoop in Harris in the summer, who’s refreshed his footballing career after four differing seasons in South Wales.

Warnock could well regret letting Harris go in the summer, but there’s little he can do about it now as he helps his new club towards a unprecedented play-off push under Monk.
