Sheffield United's season got off to a defeat with them losing at home 2-1 to Swansea on Saturday evening.

The Blades are fancied as one of the many sides to go for the play-offs this season but they'll have to avoid performances like that on a regular basis.

Certainly, it wasn't the ideal start to proceedings and now it remains to be seen if Chris Wilder can strengthen his squad before the deadline later this week.

One man who won't be arriving, though, is Martyn Waghorn with the striker and the Blades failing to agree personal terms.

Indeed, as per Andy Giddings on Twitter, Chris Wilder revealed the news and so the deal now looks dead in the water:

Waghorn appears on the move this summer from Ipswich Town and the Blades were obviously keen on bringing him in during this window.

The Verdict

Getting a fee sorted between the Blades and Ipswich obviously wasn't the problem here.

Clearly, Waghorn wanted more than what the Blades were willing to offer and so the two parties will not be working together in the coming season.

It seems likely that Waghorn will leave Ipswich this summer but he won't be moving to the red and white part of the Steel City.
