Chris Wilder's Sheffield United have made an impressive start to the season, and with competition for places fierce, an on loan Liverpool youngster will have to be patient for first team action for the Blades.

Welsh winger Ben Woodburn joined Chris Wilder's side in the summer on a season-long loan deal, in the hope that his development whilst out on loan will see him force his way into Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool team in the future.

But Woodburn has been restricted to just six appearances for the Blades, with only one start to his name in the Championship this season, in a 2-1 win over Norwich City, in which the youngster was substituted at half-time.

Wilder admitted that the winger will have to remain patient and wait for his first-team opportunities, in a Sheffield United side that is currently joint top of the Championship alongside Leeds United and Middlesbrough.

Speaking to BBC Sheffield in a press conference ahead of Saturday's match against Millwall, Wilder says that the club remain in constant communication with his parent club Liverpool and is pleased with Woodburn so far this season.

"When he gets his chance, he'll have to take it."

Woodburn made his first league start for Liverpool in the Premier League in a 2-1 win over Stoke City, where he became the third youngest player to represent the club, only older than Michael Owen and Jordon Ibe.

The 18-year-old has been called up to Ryan Giggs' Wales squad to face Spain and Republic of Ireland and will be hoping to get some much-needed game time for his country.

The Verdict

Woodburn has already given Liverpool and Wales fans a glimpse of his potential with some impressive performances but at this stage of his career Jurgen Klopp was right to send the youngster out on loan, but even Klopp would have preferred to see the Welsh international getting more game time whilst out on loan.

He has been restricted on appearances for the Blades largely due to the good form of Mark Duffy who has already scored twice in ten starts for Wilder's side. But with Woodburn not even featuring in the matchday squad in the last two matches, Liverpool fans along with Jurgen Klopp will surely be concerned about the youngster's playing time whilst out on loan.
