Wilder has stern message for Sheffield United players ahead of playoff run-in

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has said that his players will be harshly judged over the coming weeks and says certain players can force their way into the first team with their attitude and performances for the club’s development team.

Speaking to James Shield of the Sheffield Star, the Blades manager confirmed that he is constantly monitoring the behaviour of his charges, and insists the likes of Ched Evans and Samir Carruthers – who played for the under-23’s in midweek – can still play a part this term.

“People can play their way in and their way out,” Wilder said. “Players are always getting judged, day in day out, with everything they do. We don’t walk about with our eyes closed.” Wilder said.

The news will be encouraging for the likes of Evans, who has seen his season scuppered by injury and has seen the likes of Leon Clarke and Billy Sharp both excel, while the likes of James Wilson and Clayton Donaldson have also chipped in up top. However, Wilder had more words of encouragement.

“Some of the boys, I’ve got to say, are looking ready to play,” he said. “I’ll take into account what they’ve done in previous games but they are looking ready to play. They’ve shown that with their performances and with their attitudes. Day in, day out, their work ethic and levels have been really, really good.”

The Blades ran out 2-1 winners yesterday when they defeated Leeds United at Bramall Lane, and will be hoping for a strong end to the season as they look to secure a playoff spot in the Championship.
