Sheffield United have confirmed that Alan Knill has left Bramall Lane in a short statement on the club's website.

Knill has been serving as the club's Assistant Manager since 2016, working closely alongside Chris Wilder as the Blades stormed from League One into the Premier League across just three seasons.

Wilder then oversaw a top-10 finish in the Premier League, before departing the relegation-bound Blades back in March.

Knill, 56, has stuck around since then, but the club have now announced that they have completed the necessary paperwork in the last 24 hours to release him as they move into a new era under Slavisa Jokanovic.

As per their statement, the club commented: "United can confirm that Alan Knill has left the club, by mutual consent.

"Assistant manager since 2016, the paperwork has been completed in the last 24 hours to enable him to leave Bramall Lane with immediate effect.

"The board would like to thank Alan for his hard work and wish him well for the future."

The tone of the club's statement has frustrated supporters, who have been quick to offer their reaction to the news and their support of what Knill offered during his five years at Bramall Lane.
