Chris Wilder has confirmed that talks have taken place between Sheffield United and Tottenham Hotspur, with the Blades confident of keeping Cameron Carter-Vickers at Bramall Lane for the remainder of the season, reports BBC Radio Sheffield’s, Jonathan Buchan.

Carter-Vickers arrived at Bramall Lane on a season-long loan over the course of the summer, but reports this week have suggested that Spurs could look to bring the back in January due to a potential injury crisis.

The 19-year-old has featured on 13 occasions in the Championship so far for Sheffield United, playing a crucial role for Wilder’s side, who are well in the hunt for the top-six heading into the festive period.

However, despite national reports linking Carter-Vickers with a move back to North London, Wilder is expecting the defender to remain at Bramall Lane for the remainder of the season, as was originally planned.

Carter-Vickers, who has become a full USA international during his time with Sheffield United, was dropped for last weekend’s clash with Bristol City, with Wilder leaving the defender on the bench for the Blades’ 2-1 defeat at Bramall Lane.

The on-loan Tottenham defender will be pushing for a return to the starting XI this weekend, when Wilder’s side travel to Preston North End.

The Verdict

Wilder will be desperate to keep Carter-Vickers at Bramall Lane, as the Sheffield United boss will not want his squad getting any weaker over the course of the January transfer window.

Carter-Vickers hasn’t been at his best in recent weeks, but his impact in the Championship this season has still been very good.
