Championship strugglers Wigan's chances of keeping hold of on loan defender Reece James are looking slim after Premier League side Burnley registered their interest in the youngster.

According to the Sun on Sunday, the Clarets are interested in signing the 19-year-old next season if they can keep their place in the top flight.

James has been in fine form for the Latics despite their poor league position, and has shown signs of becoming a top player in the Premier League if he is given his chance, something which looks increasingly unlikely at Chelsea given their current situation.

The youngster has been a regular for Paul Cook as the Latics battle against relegation back to League One, and he has played a key role in ensuring they remain in a good position to do just that following yesterday's 5-2 win over Bolton Wanderers.

Premier League strugglers Burnley are hoping for a good finish to the season as they look to maintain their top flight position, and manager Sean Dyche will see James as the ideal sort of signing heading into next season.

The Verdict

It's clear that James is a class act, isn't it?

A move to the top end of the Championship or lower Premier League will not faze him, and he will no doubt go on to excel in his later career.

Wigan pulled off a fine move signing him in the summer, and he will no doubt go on to have a fine career.
