Wigan Athletic are set to battle with Leicester City to land Manchester United starlet Nick Powell, The Daily Star understands.
Powell, 20, spent last season on loan at Wigan and impressed manager Uwe Rosler during his eight month spell. The Latics are reportedly interested on bringing the former Crewe player back to the DW Stadium again next season on a temporary basis.
They will, however, face fierce competition from newly-promoted Leicester City.
Leicester boss Nigel Pearson was also impressed with the midfielder last season and is rumoured to be interested in bringing the England U21 international to the King Power Stadium.
The Foxes have a proven track-record of snapping up United fringe players after Pearson added Danny Drinkwater, Matty James and Ritchie De Laet to his squad in 2012, and the former Hull manager sees Powell as a perfect addition to his Premier League squad.
Celtic were also chasing the player but Neil Lennon’s resignation has all but ended their interest.
