Wigan Athletic are facing a nervy wait to see if the club has a fresh injection of cash, as they seek to keep hold of Nick Powell and offer him a new deal in the summer.

According to Alan Nixon, the Latics are keen to keep hold of their star midfielder, who has already attracted interest from the Championship this term, with a move to former manager Steve Bruce at Aston Villa something which has been mentioned on numerous occasions.

Powell has been a key man for Wigan this term as they have enjoyed success in the FA Cup and made a run at promotion in League One, and they will be desperate to keep hold of the former Hull and Manchester United man this summer.

The Latics are in a prime position to regain their place in the Championship, sitting just three points behind second placed Shrewsbury, but with two crucial games in hand which could make all the difference come the end of the campaign.

Powell has finally found his feet in Lancashire under manager Paul Cook. He initially hit the headlines when he made a stunning move from Crewe to Manchester United a few seasons back, however he failed to settle in Manchester and was never really given a fair crack of the whip at first team Old Trafford football.

Wigan fans, how much do you think Powell is worth? Let us know in the comments!
