Wigan Athletic have offered a trial to free agent centre-back Alex Milosevic, according to Alan Nixon of the Sun

The 26-year-old was released by Swedish club AIK in the summer but is yet to find a new home with Paul Cook now willing to give him a chance at the DW Stadium.

Taking to Twitter, Nixon wrote: "WIGAN. Offered a 'test' to Serb-Swede centre half Alex Milosevic. Free agent."

Milosevic made 115 appearances during his stint with AIK, scoring four goals and assisting four more as well.

Cook is rightly keen to bring in reinforcements this month with the Latics languishing dangerously close to the Championship drop zone.

A 1-0 loss to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday left them in 20th place and just six points ahead of Reading who currently occupy the final spot in the drop zone.

Two new faces have already arrived at the DW Stadium this month in the shape of Cardiff City attacker Anthony Pilkington and Sheffield United's Lee Evans.

The verdict

Wigan could certainly do with a bit more depth in defence to help out Kipre, Dunkley and Bruce so I think it would be a sensible move.

Milosevic is unproven in England but as a free-agent, there is no risk involved and he will undoubtedly have a point to prove to AIK.

A proven Championship centre-back would be ideal but in their current situation, it may be tricky to tempt them to the DW.
