Wigan Athletic could be set to turn to former Nottingham Forest loanee Kieran Dowell in January.

The Latics are looking to bring in some new faces in the winter window, and according to Alan Nixon, could turn to Dowell as a replacement for Nick Powell, who is attracting a wealth of interest from clubs at the top end of the Championship.

Dowell, who is still struggling to make an impression at Goodison Park with Everton, spent much of last season on loan with Nottingham Forest and impressed in the main.

However, it would be bittersweet for the Latics fans if they did indeed capture Dowell, with Nixon reporting that it would indeed only be as a replacement for the impressive Powell.

Powell has once again been in superb form for Wigan following his impressive displays last time out when he guided the club to promotion from League One with a series of impressive displays and goals and assists to boot.

It remains to be seen where Powell might end up, but the interest is there for sure, and while signing Dowell might soften the blow, the expecations on the young midfielder would be high if he is to step into the shoes former Man United man Powell.

Wigan fans, what do you make of this? Would Dowell be a suitable replacement? Let us know in the comments!
