Championship strugglers Wigan Athletic are set to make a move to sign Everton Antonee Robinson on a permanent basis.

The young full-back spent last season on loan with the Latics and impressed under Paul Cook's management.

Now that loan spell could potentially be set to turn into a permanent move, according to Sky Sports, with Wigan keen to bring the Toffess starlet back to the DW Stadium as the club look to push on ahead of next season.

Robinson would have been hoping to return to Goodison Park and potentially be given the chance to stake a claim for a spot in the first-team, but Wigan's interest could well turn his head somewhat depending on Everton's stance, with the offer of regular first-team football something the Latics can indeed provide.

An international already with the USA, Robinson is highly thought of by chiefs at Everton, but with the Toffees looking to build on last season's impressive finish to the campaign under Marco Silva, Robinson could well find himself with little option than to move away permanently.

Wigan fought off relegation last season under Paul Cook, with Robinson an integral part of the side which pulled off shock results in the run-in at the likes of Leeds United.

The Verdict

Wigan never seem to mess about when it comes to signing players and if they make a move for Robinson then it would be a shrewd move indeed.

A young player who has already impressed and got some experience under his belt, there is little reason why he can't develop further into one of the finer young defenders in the league.

Robinson has got a decision to make though, with Everton a club who are not averse to giving youngsters a chance. Just when he will get that chance though, remains another unanswered and crucial question.
