Wigan Athletic are now the favourites to sign Newcastle United full-back James Tavernier, reports the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.
The 22-year-old spend the majority of last season on loan at Rotherham United and helped the South Yorkshire side win promotion to the Championship.
It was reported this week that Huddersfield were interested in the Newcastle right-back but appears that Wigan are the frontrunners now to sign the Bradford-born player.
The Latics are benefiting from parachute payments in the wake of their relegation from the Premier League in 2013.
Tavernier has a year left on his contract to run at St James Park and it seems the Magpies will sell the defender rather than let his contract run out.
Newcastle signed him in 2008 from non-league Farsley, he has made seven starts, all in cup football, and two substitute appearances in the Premier League.
