Wigan Athletic are hoping to complete a deal for Nottingham Forest defender Danny Fox in the coming days.

The Reds defender has come under some scrutiny of late from certain sections of the City Ground support, and according to the Sunday People (Print Edition, Sunday 20th January 2019), Fox is expected to make a move to the Latics this week.

Fox has been a regular for Forest this term but with the dismissal of Aitor Karanka from the managerial hotseat this past week, things are expected to change for the Reds under Martin O'Neill, meaning Fox could find himself out of the picture.

The report claims that Fox himself is keen on making the move to Lancashire, with the 32-year-old keen to get involved with Paul Cook's men and help the club in their ever continuing fight against the drop from the Championship.

Fox has made in excess of 80 appearances for the Reds and has had success previously with the likes of Southampton and Burnley, meaning his experience could be invaluable for Wigan.

Wigan lost out to Sheffield Wednesday yesterday with a result which ensured they stayed fifth from bottom in the second tier.

The Verdict

The writing looks to be on the wall here with this one, and Fox would do well to get out of the City Ground if O'Neill is not going to play him.

The defender is a quality enough act and plays whole heartedly, and he might just suit a club like Wigan who are scrapping for their lives near the bottom.
