Wigan, Blackburn and Bolton all line up double deal for impressive League One pair

Blackpool duo Kelvin Mellor and Clark Robertson are being eyed by three Championship clubs ahead of the summer transfer window, according to Sky Sports News.

Newly-promoted duo Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic are joined by Bolton Wanderers in their admiration for Mellor and Robertson, who are both out of contract this summer.

The Championship trio are readying moves for the pair, who are soon to become free agents.

Both players want to make a move to the Championship, although Blackpool will attempt to get them to sign new deals at Bloomfield Road.

Mellor and Robertson have impressed in League One this season after helping their side win promotion to the third tier via the League Two play-offs last season.

Robertson played 39 games last season, scoring twice, as a left-sided centre-half.

The 24-year-old is being considered for a call-up to the senior Scotland squad, having previously represented the under-21 side while at Aberdeen and playing in the Championship would enhance his international ambitions.

Meanwhile, Mellor played 29 games for the Seasiders.

The 27-year-old is a full-back by trade but standing at 6ft 3in, he is also comfortable in the middle of defence.

Formerly of Crewe Alexandra and Plymouth Argyle, Mellor is now being eyed by Championship clubs.

The Verdict

Mellor has been on Championship clubs’ radar previously and it is no surprise to see him linked once again after a fine year.

Robertson is another player who is playing below his level at League One and these two players have contributed to a successful season for Blackpool.

On free transfers, it is definitely worth a punt for Wigan, Blackburn and Bolton, who will all be aiming for survival as they look to consolidate their place as a Championship club.
